How to Create a LinkedIn Cover Photo

Why don’t you have a cover photo on your LinkedIn profile? If you think it’s too difficult to find a photo and size it properly, keep reading.

I’ll show you how to create your cover photo in ten minutes today– because when I see a profile without a cover photo, I assume the person doesn’t know how to add one or just doesn’t care.

You do care, and that’s why I want to share these three steps to creating your own, personalized cover photo:

1. Find a photo
Finding a photo is easier than you think. Think about your personal brand and what type of image you want to represent you. Perhaps you want to use a cover photo that supports your headline. If you work in copywriting, you might choose a picture of words, books, or a typewriter. Other options: symbolic, location, promotional images.

My go-to website for free (high quality!) stock imagery is Others to try: Life of PixStartup Stock PhotosStockSnapDesigners Pics, and Pexels.

Once you find an image you like, download it to your computer.

2. Size the photo to 1400×425 px

Go to and create a free account (it only takes a few clicks!)

Click “Custom Dimensions” in the top right-hand corner to create your canvas

Enter in 1400 x 425 pixels to size your canvas

Upload your image by clicking “Uploads” on the left-hand side of the screen

Once the photo is uploaded, drag and drop it onto your canvas and stretch it out to fit across the entire canvas. You can add text and shapes, too. Make it yours, but realize that part of your cover photo will be covered up by your name, headline, and photo. Plan accordingly!

When you are finished with your creation, download your design!

3. Upload the
photo to your profile

Go to Profile > Edit Profile

Hover over your cover photo space and click “Edit Background”

Then, drag to reposition and if you like it…you’re done!

Let me know how this works for you. I’d love to see your new pic!

How to Choose What the Public Sees on Your LinkedIn Profile [Pictures]

Do you know how your LinkedIn profile looks to those who you are not connected with? Your public profile is important, and you should check up on what you’re sharing with everybody.

Here’s how to edit your Public Profile:

  1. Hover over “Profile” in the top navigation, and click “Edit Profile”

2. Hover over your Public Profile URL and wait for a gear icon to pop up

3. When you see the gear icon, click on it!

4. Now you are on your Public Profile page where you can edit what people see on your public profile (when they are not connected with you)

5. On the right, you’ll find a list of items that people can see on your public profile. Check the boxes next to the items that you want to share publicly. This may depend on what you use your LinkedIn profile for– if you are a salesperson, you want to show as much information as possible because potential clients are checking you out!

Hope this tutorial is helpful to you!
